DESCRIPTION:
Clockwork Fans- 5 (Five): National Enameling & Stamping Company, Baltimore, Maryland, "Fly Fan" or "Shoo Fly Fans", five spring driven fan bases with three cloth and wire blade assemblies, c1910.
CONDITION:
Metal bases have oxidized surfaces. Four of the five base units will run when wound. The fifth unit may have a detached mainspring. The three fan blade assemblies will need to be conserved or restored, as the fabric is quite fragile. Linkages between the fan blades and bases appear to be missing, but a short section of metal rod of the correct diameter is all that is needed. One of the units has a decent paper label on the bottom. This model of fan does not require a key; they are wound by turning the wing nut at the top of the base unit. The National Enameling and Stamping Company (NESCO) was at one time the nation's largest tinware manufacturer. Sold "as is ".
